Gold Sovereign Coins

Probably the oldest international monetary gold coin in history. The British Gold Sovereign Coins are recognised the world over for there beauty and intrinsic value. First issued as far back as 1489 for Henry VII of England. The gold sovereign coins of that era were 23 Carats and stamped with Henry sat upon his throne and the Royal Coat of arms on he reverse, and also had no currency value mark. Over the years Gold Sovereign Coins were reduced in purity and weight until the 1816. When the great recoinage was introduced to combat the poor quality and create a gold standard of quality.

Modern Day gold sovereign coins reflect that older traditions as they still depict Saint George slaying the dragon on the reverse side, as designed by Benedetto Pistrucci.
