Gold Britannia

Issued back in 1987 the British Gold Bullion Coin contain one troy ounce of gold. Although not a true ounce. They actually contain 22 carat gold and have a 91.7% purity. With the rest made up from silver. The Gold Britannia coins have a face value of £100 and are widedly recognised around the world. Although not as much as their Gold Sovereign Cousins. There are also fractional Gold Britannia coins available. But they are a lot rarer to find and tend too carry a much higher premium.

One thing that helps keep the Gold British Britannia coins highly collectable is the Royal Mint of England, keeps the mintage numbers down. Although strictly controlled and the real numbers are never released into the public domain. It is said they only mint less than a few hundred thousand pieces.
