Krugerrand Gold Coins
Many gold coin collectors recognise the significance of the South African Gold Coin. Krugerrands as they are know are South Africa's own National Bullion Coin. Minted entirely for private ownership of gold. They were the first gold coins to have a full 1 troy ounce of gold or (31.1035 g) of gold. Infact they are slightly over this in weight owing to the (2.826 grams) of copper added to the coin to mark its dstinctive glow.
The name Krugerrand comes from the resistance fighter Paul Kruger who led a campaign against British oppression in the Boer war. And the Rand part is from the South African currency named "Rand". South African Krugerrand Gold Coins are highly prized, due to their high purity content, warm glow and the fact they have exactly 1 full ounce of gold content. They are also a personal favourite of mine!.
